Short story
It has been years since the people dissolved the Government to gain complete and total freedom. At first, the change was welcomed, but soon the people became too scared to even come out of their houses. Only the brave and the dangerous people wandered about freely, pillaging and killing. This resulted in the majority of the population to be terrified and untrusting to anyone. Not all of the people on the loose were bad however.
“Cover! Shots fired, shots fired! Everyone to cover!” Shouted Caleb as gunfire rang out across the field.”
Caleb was the leader of a group of men and women fighting to restore order and balance to society. Lately, there had been quite a bit of resistance from the people who had control over the local towns and farms. These were the kind of people that caused the most trouble. They had gained control through murder and manipulation, making the remaining citizens think that they were being protected. Apparently Caleb and his squad had just stumbled upon one of these groups. As he and his group scrambled to cover, he caught a glimpse of the attackers.
They were set up behind pallets and hay bales, completely useless against gunfire.
“Hold your fire.” Said Caleb.
He was planning on a negotiation to try and gain a cease fire between his group and the group that was firing on them. Apparently the other group's leader had the same idea, as he shouted for his men to stop firing. Caleb got out of cover and approached the other man, who had already started towards him. Caleb introduced himself, and after a little hesitation the other man introduced himself as Sam. As they discussed terms, Caleb realized that his goal and Sams were the same. Sam was working on gaining alliances to take over and put control over the people. After about an hour, Caleb returned to his men and announced that they were going to be joining up with Sam and his men. All but one of Caleb's men, Jason liked having more men added to their small group. Jason was Caleb's right hand man and he thought that Sam and his men weren't to be trusted. After pulling Caleb away from the rest of the group, Jason made his argument to Caleb, “We just met these people and the first time we made contact, it was when they started shooting at us.” He said.
“That was only because they didn't know that we were both fighting for the same thing.” Caleb argued.
“That doesn't justify it.” Jason said in a low growl, barely audible to Caleb.
“Give them two days. If they betray my trust, we’ll get rid of them.” Replied Caleb.
The days after the argument proved no different than before, with the exception of having Sam and his men fighting alongside them. This didn't convince Jason, however. With each passing day, he became more and more suspicious of Sam and his men. About a week after Sam joined up with Caleb, he approached Jason to ask what was bothering him. Jason responded by pulling out his sidearm and pointing it at Sam. “What is the real reason that you joined up with us?” he asked.
“I’m fighting for the same cause as you are, and my men are too few in number to accomplish it on our own.” Replied Sam.
“Well if you're so few in number, why didn't you go recruting at the random towns and villages?” Said Jason, without lowering his gun.
Sam looked him in the eye, deadly serious and said “Because all of the people within a hundred miles is too terrified to come out of their houses because they heard about your group and think that you kill whenever people don't obey you.”
Without saying another word, Jason holstered his gun and walked away.
The next weeks were reasonably successful in recruiting people as they went from settlement to settlement. Out of all of the places they went, only a few would decline to send someone to join them. This made Jason even more suspicious of Sam for saying that he couldn't find help anywhere else. As the group traveled, Caleb noticed that the two men were adding tension and stress to the group, but whenever he tried to ask one of them what was going on they would walk away without saying anything. This bothered Caleb until he finally started to speak to the group as a whole to find out what their next course of action would be, and he was planning to address the problem with Sam and Jason. As he drew nearer to a good time to mention it, there was a whistling sound, followed by the explosion of a rock near Caleb and after that, a faint gunshot. The group erupted into confusion and panic.
As Caleb tried to get his band of men to calm down and get to cover, there were more gunshots and one of his men went down. This prompted the rest of the group to move out of the line of fire, and after that to return fire. After only seconds, the gunfire stopped. Jason, thinking it was over stood up to get to a better spot, and too late Caleb yelled at him to get down. A single crack of a rifle and a sicking pinging crunch told Caleb that it was over, and in a raging sadness of the loss of his friend started to shoot blindly in the direction that the final shot from the enemy had come from. He fired until he had no bullets left in his gun to shoot. Immediately after he stopped shooting, there was high pitched screaming sound, a flash of light, and then nothing.
Caleb stepped out of his tent and went over to the fire where his good friend and right hand man, Jason sat drinking coffee and laughing with some of the other men. It was the morning after one of the most successful recruiting days. In total the day before, they had gotten twenty more people to join them. Caleb sat down and joined in the conversation that the croup was having. As it stood, most of the people were fans of pie, and Caleb through his opinion out saying that cheesecake was obviously better. After a while of arguing about it, Caleb thought that he was about to convert some of the other men to his cause. This was not the case however, because one of the scouts that had gone out the previous night came running back into the camp. He went straight to Caleb and told him, “I just got word that there is another group that is larger than ours, and they are headed the same direction we are.” The scout stopped to catch his breath before continuing. “They are trying to restore law and order the same as us.”
Go tell everyone to pack up their supplies. We will move out and try to find this other group to see if they would like us as allies.” Caleb replied.
They were ready to leave in a matter of minutes and set out to find the other group. They traveled far enough to reach another town, where they settled down for the night. The next day, Caleb was woken by Jason telling him that they had visitors. He hurriedly got dressed and went outside to see who it was. When he saw what it was, he froze in his tracks. There was a group of at least a hundred armed men outside the camp waving a white flag. Caleb went out with a small group of his best fighters just in case. When he reached the group, he was addressed directly by another man who was obviously the leader of the other group. The man told Caleb that he was searching for a group of fighter just outside the city and was startled when Caleb said the same thing. After a moment's hesitation, Caleb decided to let these men join his own group. The leader of the fighting force was delighted and told his own men to set up camp. That night was tense in Caleb's camp, as no one was sure about the new recruits were safe to be around. The night, as tense as it was, proved to be uneventful. Come morning, the first of Caleb's men to be up and about were surprised at the fact that most of the men from the new recruits were already up and had made coffee for the rest of the men when they woke up. Sam and some of his men walked over to the fire and began talking with the other men. When he and his group sat down they were greeted by one of the other men, making another pot of coffee.
“It's Sam isn't it?” He asked, and without waiting for an answer said,
“I’m Patrick.”
“Well Patrick, we welcome you to our group.” Replied Sam.
“These are some of my men,” and pointing to each one in turn Sam introduced the men he was with,
“This is Dylan, Brian, and Thomson, but we call him lucky.”
“How'd you come by that name?” Asked Patrick addressing Lucky directly.
“Well, you see, It was just a couple of weeks ago.” Started Lucky.
“I was out with one of the early morning patrols and out of the 3 people that went out, I was the only one that made it back.”
“Oh, I’m sorry.” Said Patrick sympathetically.
“Don't be.” Responded Lucky.
“At least one of us made it back. It's always better to look at the good side of things.”
“Those are good words to live by.” Said Patrick.
“Thank you.” Replied Lucky
“Alright, let's get going!” Yelled Caleb, interrupting the conversation at the campfire.
They started to pack up, and within an hour, they were ready to go. As they were traveling Patrick noticed a tension between Sam, the man he had been talking to and another man named Jason. It seemed like Jason wanted Sam gone because he didn't trust Sam. On the third day after Patrick had joined up with caleb and his group, One of his men came into his tent and informed him that they had finally reached their goal. According to their scouts, the group of fighters that they were travelling to meet up with was less than a mile away. Before they went to introduce themselves, Caleb called the group to a meeting. That's when it all went wrong. Patrick heard a gunshot, Caleb yelling orders at his men, and then he heard a deafening crack in his ear and Patrick heard and saw no more.
Caleb felt like his entire body was on fire. All he could remember was an explosion and he blacked out. He saw fire and smoke. His men were scattered and most of them were dead. He tried to stand up, but fell back down in agony. He looked at his legs and realized that they were gone. For a moment he looked at the grievous wound in shock, and then he rolled over and vomited. He lay where he was, stunned that anything like this could have happened to him. That's when he heard footsteps and a voice saying,
“This man came into my camp and told me of an armed fighting force on my doorstep. Maybe you recognize him.”
Caleb turned himself painfully over and saw Jason standing over him.
“Why Jason?” He asked.
“That's none of your business.” Said Jason cooley.
“It's a shame that Sam and his group of savages got away.” He added.
“But what will you gain from this?” Demanded Caleb.
“Power.” Said Jason raising his gun.
“Wait, Jason Don't do…” And he never finished his sentence.

Mask Project
Our project was to gain a better understanding of socialization and how it affects us personally. In this project, we made masks to represent the area of socialization that we chose as well as wrote a paper about the research that we did. Over the time given to work on our projects, we also made revision packets to show how we improved on our essays. I leaned a lot about how to write good papers as well as learning how society affects me personally.

Socialization
Socialization of religion
Religion has been around in all forms for thousands of years. There have been times when religions have broken off of each other, but the idea remains the same. Religion has and always will impact society. In Rome during its downfall, the Romans adopted Christianity in the hopes that it would save them. They went from killing all Christians to killing anyone who wasn't one. The days of watching them die in the coliseum were gone, and they began anew. Even after Rome fell in the west, The Byzantine Empire remained in their firm Christian beliefs. I believe that in this time period, society is not as accepting of religion as it used to be. This is because it believes that religion is more problem causing than problem solving.
This is not the only example about how religion can affect society in a gargantuan way. Christianity is only one of many different religions that have stories like this. Other religions that have majorly affected society are the Islamic religion and the Jewish religion. All of these have differing ideas and all have affected society in major ways. Over the years, society has gotten to a point where the impact of religion isn't always good. In the last few hundred years, some religious groups have grown quiet. This is because they are afraid of what people will do to them for following their own beliefs. One example of this is John 18:13-27. Peter is outside the priest’s temple waiting for Jesus’ sentence, and is asked 3 times if he is a disciple of Jesus. All 3 times, he denies that he even knew Christ. He did this because he was afraid that he might be killed with Jesus. This is one of the negative ways that society views religion.
With all of the different opinions about God, It is obvious that there are different subcultures that have split off of the traditional Universal, or Catholic Church. The norms and habits of all of these are different. One example of this is that in the Ten Commandments, It says to keep the 7th day a holy day. The Universal church thinks that this is on a Sunday, while subculture like the 7th day Adventist church and many protestant churches believe that it is on a Saturday. These subcultures are in this belief because that is the day that the rest of society says it’s on. Another thing that differs between these two groups is the tradition. The Universal church still exercises control over its members while the 7th day Adventist groups are run by the members and there are no clear leaders, just the relationship between members.
There are now many different subcultures that have broken off of the Universal church. The reason for this is because in some places you can be killed for your religion and toning it down to the point that no one knows about it. One of the most prominent protestant churches is the Baptist church. This group was one of the first protestant churches when Martin Luther and as a result is one of the most recognized. Another one is the Seventh Day Adventist church. This is a much smaller group that focuses on the community more than anything else. It is a place where people meet to have a good time as well as have worship and prayer.
Christianity is not the only religion that has impacted society in a massive way. One of the most prominent religions is the religion of Islam. Islam has an interesting and in a few ways, debatable creation. Allegedly a man by the name of Mohammed was sleeping in a cave and the angel Gabriel told him what he needed to do. Over the years, Islam has changed in many ways. Some of these ways are that they went from being radical Islam, to being more peaceful and accepting. When it was in its early stages, Islam was still led by Mohammed and they went from town to town taking over. Society was affected by this because it made them scared of what might happen. In current times, people still get scared because of the threat of bombing by Islamic. This is a very untrue thing to think, because they are no threat. It is how society has begun to view them that put the fear into place. Islam is viewed as one of the worst religions because they “Are willing to die and blow up other people for their religion.” This again is not true, but it is how society has begun to view them.
Another large religion that has affected society is the Buddhist groups. They originated from a prince who decided to meditate until he had a revelation about how religion should be and eventually, he got more and more followers until it was one of the biggest religions in the world.
This group has impacted society with its wise words and prophecies. Many people believe that they are right in what they say and start their lives anew. Society thinks higher of this religion because it doesn't have such a violent history like Christianity and Islam. They view Buddhism as a wise and peaceful religion unlike the others, which they view as problematic and violent.
Still more, the group of evolutionists is influencing society as well. They are arguably the biggest and most influencing group of all. They don’t believe that God exists, but that over millions and millions of years the world has evolved and people have as well. With the discovery of ancient bones that show what humans used to be, people have said that it is how everything has and always will be. Even with all of the people that share this opinion, there are people who claim that it isn't and can’t be real. Many of these people claim that the bones and other proofs were planted and that the evolutionists are just trying to gain followers. Even though it is not clear if it has been in a good way, the theory of evolution has impacted society in massive ways and quite possibly the most of any other groups.
Over all, Religion in any form has and always will have a massive impact on society. There will always be a blurred line at whether or not it is a good impact on society. Either way it will always be a large part of today's society. Whether it is in the form of war or change to save people, it will always be there for anyone and will remain a part of society by never giving it a chance to leave. This paper talked mostly about how religion affects society and vice versa. It talked about the fall of Rome and how they tried to save themselves by converting to Christianity. It also talked about the different subcultures of religion and how they affect/ are affected by society.
